Congressman gives Paxton family flag flown over the Capitol Building

An American flag that was draped over the casket of WWII veteran and father of Paxton resident Tami Mohamed, was stolen from a flagpole in her yard on the Fourth of July. Although the flag was never found, the story still has a happy ending.

Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA) got wind of Mohamed’s loss through an article published in The Landmark in July and reached out to the family help.

“When I saw the story I thought it was terrible,” said McGovern adding that he wanted to find a way to ease a small bit of the family’s pain. For this reason, he decided to donate a new flag to the couple, one that he had flown over the U.S. Capitol building in honor of Tami’s father William R. Buchyn Jr.

According to Tami, Buchyn served in the Navy for six years during World War II.
